Cheap, poor construction, not made to last.This is not a two-piece case, with a true hinge. Top lid is molded onto the bottom piece, and "hinged" via a thin flap of plastic. Top broke off after about 6 months, which is not surprising. So, into the trash it goes, like everything else made to be disposable these days...Update:Shock Doctor contacted me and sent not one, but 3 replacements. The design is the same, flaws and all, but the extra ones somewhat make up for the fact they'll probably all break eventually. Added 1 more star for good customer service. 3Sturdy, clips on, big ventilation hole in frontI bought this for my daughter's lower spacer since the box from the orthodontist broke after a month. It's like a retainer, but it goes on the inside of the lower teeth. Since she's 8, the spacer is fairly small - small enough to fall out the ~1 x 0.5" ventilation hole in the front. I like the clip, and she likes the color. It's sturdy enough and closes securely enough for the job. The plastic hinge will break eventually, but waddaya want for a couple bucks?A folded-over strip of Duck Tape (with an owl pattern, no less) fixed the hole, so problem solved! 4Just received it so, will update after more use.I am leaving an immediate review of this product due to the color. I ordered metallic gold for all three of my kids, as gold is one of the colors for their team. The color isn't even close to gold. It's kind of a yellowy-brown, and not a nice color at all. I wish I'd ordered the CHROME gold instead, but I didn't want something so shiny because they usually show scratches sooner. It's just the color, but it'd be really nice if sellers were more honest about the color options they claim. The photos of the color in the listing don't come close to the real life color, and it can't even be blamed on photo lighting. I'm a photographer, there is no form of lighting that would fudge the color that much. The product color was altered by editing. So, I'm knocking off two stars for dishonesty in the product description.I'll return to review the actually performance of the cases after my kids have put them through a good portion of their spring/summer season. We travel a LOT for their team, and it'd be nice if these cases actually protect the mouth-guards. I have four kids in sports. It gets expensive to have to replace their mouth-guards even just one or two times. 3Junky qualitySo this was my son s first year playing flag football, and it was pretty gross carrying around his mouth guard in a Ziploc bag. I saw a couple other kids on the team had bees so I ordered him one. The very first game that we get two, I ve got it clipped onto his water bottle & he trips on his way to the field. Mouth guard is nowhere to be found... I searched forever because he can t play without a mouth guard. He ended up sitting on the bench for half the game while I continued to search for a mouth guard in the grass and Grandma ran to the store to buy him a new one. But I thought hey, he tripped so it s reasonable to think that this will pop open. Two weeks later, the stupid thing completely falls apart. The plastic was thin and felt like junk. I don t know if this was just a knock off, next year will be getting all of our equipment from our local sporting good store 2I'm happy with it.I purchased this to hold my Shock Doctor 3300 Max Air Flow Lipguard. I wasn't sure if it would fit so I asked the question here and was told by one of the sellers "we do not know of any reason why it would not," so I ordered it. The lipguard does fit though the case squashes it down when it's closed. Since the guard is made of soft silicone I'm sure that's not a problem.For anyone wondering what mouthguards this case fits there's a list of Shock Doctor brand mouthguards that it works with on the back of the packaging.- Custom- Nano 3D- Nano 3D Lower- Nano Double- Gel Nano- Gel Max- Ultra Braces- Braces- Soccer STC- Baseball/Softball STC- Basketball STC- Gravity 2 STCAs far as the design of the case goes, I like it. There's a slot in the front for the tether to slit stick out through. The case is ventilated so the guard dries. I find the latch to be secure even with the guard pushing against it (despite what some other reviewer's have said about it opening easily). The carabiner is very handy. My only complaints are the hinge and the place for your name, phone, and team. Given the price of the case the hinge seems inadequate, it's just a thinner piece of plastic and not a real hinge I'm not sure how long it will last. The ID area on the back is just the words "name;," "phone:," and "team:" followed by a line embossed into the plastic. It's not a material you can write on (even with a Sharpie). I would've been better off if it had just been flat so I could use a label maker and stuck my name on it that way.Other than those two complaints I'm happy with it and would buy it again. 5Breathable, with a nice clipThis case is a little big, considering I use the SISU mouthguard SISU 1.6 Adult Mouth Guard (Snow White), which is very closely formed to my teeth (not bulky at all, great purchase BTW). I'm sure it would fit most orthodontic mothguards as well. The case is breathable and I never feel like I'm putting something gross back into my mouth. It is breathable and easy to open and close. It also has a carabiner to clip into my bag so it doesn't get lost in the bottom. I read some reviews that it can open up easily and drop your mothguard out, but for the 1-2 times/wk that I used it for the past season, I didn't have any problems with that. 4Friend To Mouthguards, Retainers & Dentures EverywhereThis mouth guard case has some great features. I wanted a hard case for my mouth guard that I could just leave in my gym bag and forget about after games. I didn't want to have to worry about it getting stinky or moldy or getting crushed by my other gear. Additionally, I wanted something I knew I couldn't loose -- something idiot-proof. Below is a list of what I've found most useful. And feel free to take a look at my attached photos.1) The case is really, really heavy duty. You know those infomercials where they have, like, five sumo wrestlers sit on something to demonstrate its indestructability? Well, this case comes pretty darn close. Even when a team bus is loaded up with two-dozen bags on top of mine, I know the case will come out just fine.2) Ventilation. Several strategically placed ventilation slots allow the contents to breath. That way, if you put a saliva-coated or otherwise wet mouth guard inside and leave it there unopened for days, the mouth guard will dry out without becoming moldy and stinky. That is a major advantage of this product; trust me, I know from past experience! (A quick aside: the manufacturer claims that the case is made of antibacterial material. I don't know about that. They offer no specifics other than "antibacterial." Who knows, maybe it's true. In any case, I've never had any odor problems since I began using it.)3) The case has a built-in carabiner doohickey that allows you to secure it onto any kind of hook or strap in your bag. (See attached photos.) I take full advantage of the feature. And more than a year later I haven't lost it.4) The relatively large size of the case means it can easily be used for orthodontic retainers of nearly any shape and size. (See attached photos.) Those things are expensive, and the advantages I listed above would give you or your child a very good chance of not losing or damaging an expensive piece of orthodontic equipment.5) The product is Made in the USA.All in all an excellent product at this price point. 4... mouth piece case from the orthodontist but it wasn't easy to open and didn't have any openings to let ...We got a mouth piece case from the orthodontist but it wasn't easy to open and didn't have any openings to let the mouth piece breath. This one comes with an attachment to connect to his back pack for school and has an opening to let the mouth piece breath. Shock dr. Mouth pieces are good for the ones recommended for braces as well!! We haven't had any trouble or complaint about it. My son can keep up with this one easily. 5Broke first time it was used.Broke first time it was used. I bought this because of the clip on top so my son wouldn't lose it. He clipped it to his lacrosse bag. When he picked the bag up to come home after the game, there was a big hole in the bottom of this - it had cracked and a big piece had fallen off. The hole was large enough that the mouth guard falls right out. Bummer. It would have been great otherwise. Given the kind of use I would expect - clipped to athletic bags and gear - it doesn't seem sturdy enough for the job. 1Bad Design lost and ruined guard first day!Day one of using it and placing a brand new never used SISU mouthguard in it. My son attached it to the outside of his sports bag got into the locker room getting ready for the big hockey game opened up the case and to his surprise his brand new just fitted mouth guard was missing. It fell through the very large hole/vent in the front of the case. We go to look for it thinking it must have fallen out nearby. Nope in the parking lot when walking into the rink. Now a brand new $19 mouth guard gone rolled over by a car never to be used. Very Frustrating! It says it works with all mouth guards looped or not, not true even a looped mouth guard could work it's way out. Our current fix, put packaging tape over the large hole to prevent the new newest mouth guard from fallling out. 1
