Customer Reviews

Perfect pedal for beginner MTBers and commuters.Im getting back into MTB and I got these to replace an aging set of Shimano XT PD-M747 peddles. I was worried they wouldn't be as good as my old ones, but have to say, i cant tell the difference. The 50 gram weight difference is not perceivable, they spin very smoothly, even after 100s of miles, the engage/disengagement is super smooth and they look practically the same as 747's. I guess its trickle down technology at work. Ive used the whole SPD product line from Shimano and these are as good as any, and a great beginner/get back into the sport pedal. If I have anything negative to say its that (being a entry level MTB set) ,the cleats that are included are the SH51 single release type, meaning you have to twist to disengage, and Ive had some nasty crashes with them in the past, getting used to SPDs. I prefer the SH56 multi-release cleats, which are better for beginners, offroad and commuting, and allow you to just pull your foot straight off the pedal in an emergency, but still hold onto the pedal well enough for bunny hops and sprints. 5So far so good. This is my first experience with clipless pedals ...Bought these for my Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1002 Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike. Attached them with no trouble and have been using them about a week. So far so good. This is my first experience with clipless pedals of any kind, but they seem perfectly adequate. I liked that they came with cleats for my shoes so that I did not have to guess which kind would fit. I easily installed those on my shoes, as well. I am very happy 5Excellent pedals - smooth, durable, and comfortableI use these pedals on my road bike, and love them. The accompanying shoe design lets me walk without using cleat covers or damaging the cleats. These pedals clip securely but are also easy to get out of. When I sold my old bike, these pedals were the only things I wanted to keep from it.They are also tough. I let a friend borrow the pedals, and he clipped a concrete post with them (because he was riding in the dark with no headlight - apparently he thought his blinding brilliance was enough to light up the path) and wiped out. Other parts of the bike were bent out of shape, but the pedal, which took the brunt of the impact, only had cosmetic damage. 5First Time User of Clipless Pedal and I Couldn't be HappierI purchased these pedals to use on my road bike. I have never used clipless pedals before and I heard that it was easier to get in and out of mountain bike clipless pedals then it was to get in and out of road pedals. Plus if you ever need to walk around in your cycling shoes it is easier to do so in mountain bike shoes then road shoes. I lowered the tension on the pedals and have had no problems getting in and out of the pedals. The quality is excellent and looks like they should last for a long time. 5Excellent pedalI've used this pedal on several bikes. I have tried the higher priced Shimano pedals but I have not found them to be any better than this model and in way superior. This pedal can be removed with a standard pedal wrench. The higher priced pedals can only be removed using a Hex wrench. I have had situations where the pedal was extremely difficult to remove with the hex wrench. One time I had to remove the crankset and place it in a vise to loosen the pedal. These are also very easy to disassemble to clean and lubricate. 5A necessity for bikers! If you are biking without these stop immediately and get them! You will be doing yourself a huge favor. Upon switching to these clip in pedals I nearly doubled my distance! It really makes pedaling more efficient even if you don't realize it. The default unclip pressure works great for me but it is adjustable if needed. I like this specific model because it has a larger platform which allows me to pedal with normal tennis shoes on if I am biking around campus and don't want to put my bike shoes on. The pedal is very durable and will get many more years of use from me! 5Best Pedals For Clipless Beginers!I bought these pedals thinking that the first time of get on them I would 100% fall and break my skull in half... But that obviously didn't happen (YET) but it will happen and its normal. Anyways let me tell you something's to back up my review. I started with normal platform pedals pretty much on every bike I ever sat on, for YEARS, But there was never that feeling of efficientcy very rotation of the crank. I then tried out straps on the platform pedals but the straps were a very good option for me because I have a very wide foot and I found it very difficult to put my foot Into the strap, which led to me almost getting ran over several times. After those headaches I tried out Toeclips with different avenir pedals and I really like the toeclips and have nothing bad to say about them. Anyways I have some rich snotty friends who ride Bianchis and leaders, and full carbon track bikes ETC. and they all bugged me and telling me I should try out Clipless pedals well I took there advice and looked for relatively inexpensive clipless pedals and I looked and looked everywhere possible and had many decisions but I picked these Shimano PD M520 pedals and I have had a lot luck becaus I haven't fallen yet The pedals are great looking and are easy to clip in. Especially for beginners you have a 3mm Allen key bolt to adjust whether you want a very high tendon or low tension to clip in and I obviously have it in the lowest setting. But anyways everything about these pedals is great and I don't ever regret buying these pedals. And they look really nice on my Fixed gear hope that helps your decision! 5Great pedal great price.I put a lot of time into researching pedals for my mtn bike. For years these have been the standard.I prefer the spd type pedal. In this case I could not justify the increase in cost vs weight-reduction for the bigger brother to these and have happily settledUsage:I have used imitation shimano's with sad results. These have put up with much abuse.mis-clicking in. rock/curb smashes. ground grinds. still solid.Mud and debris is easily cleaned.maintenance is a breeze.Overall:These should last you and I for many years.Happy Riding! 4Perfect for Clipping NewbiesI've read and watched several reviews. This pedal system is highly recommended for good reason. Having the ability to clip on both sides is very important for a newbie like me. Adjustment is easy, just remember to adjust both sides of each pedal.Find a safe place and practice. I fell twice in my garage within the first couple of minutes. After kissing the cement floor, I gained all of the respect for them I'll ever need. I have been very aware of being clipped in since. My left foot is my rest foot, and my first unclip on stops. This system works great and you'll immediately notice a better power transfer. The confidence of knowing your feet won't slip means you'll drive harder. Within two rides I've increased the clip release force. I have a hybrid bike and ride on paved biking trails. Tip: apply thread lock to your cleat screws. They do work loose. 5Great pedals when they workBought these 4 months ago for my stationery bike which I use lightly. Worked great until the left pedal stopped functioning - after 2 min of pedaling it will come loose from the bike and come completely undone making me stop. I tried fixing it but the same thing keeps happening. Contacted the seller - they responded asking about my order number but never heard back despite emailing them a second time. Very disappointed 1
