Customer Reviews

Awesome for the price!Technically this helmet fits, however I am lazy and instead of adjusting I ride with it extremely tight whenever I wear my hair in a bun. Either way this helmet is awesome- I always hit my head on while attaching my trike to posts, and this thing has saved me from a concussion too many times to count. The colors are bright and I would so recommend! I have attached a pic of my trike with the helmet on the handlebars so you can see the brightness. 5Major design flaw!We just ordered a couple Schwinn helmets for our kids--this "Intercept" model, and the "Thrasher" model. Both appeared to be great helmets and we love the "dial fit" adjuster on both. After very limited use, however, we noticed that the inner "fit ring" of this Intercept model keeps coming loose when our daughter wears her helmet. It does not stay secure on her head as helmets should. Problem!Based on some of these other user reviews, it appears that the Intercept model has a pretty major design flaw. The dial fit adjustment piece and front padding is an all-in-one band and is secured within the helmet shell by six, small velcro tabs. That's it--just velcro. We compared this to the Thrasher model and to two adult helmets we own with a "dial fit" design. In all of these models, the plastic "fit ring" adjuster piece has anchor tabs that are glued into the hard foam of the shell. It does not come out! Velcro is also used in those helmets, but just for the removable padding pieces--not the actual fit adjuster piece.I have contacted the manufacturer with my concerns. They were very courteous and I expect that they will remedy the problem with a new helmet. If you're shopping for a new helmet though, I recommend saving yourself the hassle. Schwinn is great, just choose a different model.* update *After sending the manufacturer the details and photos they requested, we received a replacement unit. Unfortunately, they sent me exactly the same thing. So, no help there. I'm returning this helmet and getting something else. We definitely can not recommend this helmet. 1As far as I'm concerned Schwinn has done an outstanding job making a terrific quality helmet at a budget priceI have owned the Schwinn Intercept helmet about two years. While riding my road bike home on Tuesday, a rock kicked up above my front tire and jammed into my fork. I was powering up a small hill and got thrown over the handlebars, head first into the pavement. My left shoulder and left side back also struck the pavement, after my head. When my helmet hit the ground, it actually took a gouge of pavement out of the road. My head had a few superficial scratches, under the area where my helmet struck the pavement. I hit the ground so hard, I was unable to move for about two minutes. I have rib and back injuries. As far as I'm concerned Schwinn has done an outstanding job making a terrific quality helmet at a budget price. I know this helmet saved my life. I'm going to buy a new one. I will never put the old one in the garbage. I think I will frame it! 5Excellent value! Just a little DIY velcro needed. This is a very inexpensive helmet, but doesn't feel like it's as cheap as the price. It's actually rather decent, lower mid tier quality. The foam is firm and well sculpted. Fitment is excellent and there's ample adjustment available with the straps. The visor is supposed to be removable, but attempting to do so starts to look like it's going to crack the outer shell... so I left it in place. It's actually not too obtrusive. My only reason for not giving his 5 stars is the padding. There is default paddling already in place on the strap harness that wraps around your head. Then there's the two strips that are positioned over the top of your head. The pads are a little bit thin, but worse is the velcro. There are just two VERY SMALL little circles of velcro provided. It's not enough to anchor the pads in place very well. But, if you have some velcro on hand, as I did, I was able to cut some extra pieces that finished the job. Now the top pads are securely in place. I got this helmet for seasonal use at a relative's house that I visit in the winter, and didn't want to spent a lot of money. This was the perfect choice. The helmet is comfortable and does the job, for an excellent price (I paid $15). 4Can't wait to fall down and give it a try! This helmet is a little bigger than I expected for something called a "micro," but it's my first bike helmet, so what do I know?As I expected, it's a little large for my tiny pinhead. I normally wear a size 6-7/8 to 7 hat, so I dialed this down to the smallest size possible, and with a baseball cap underneath it seems to fit as I imagine it should. Having less than a full head of hair (OK, much less), I prefer to wear a hat under it anyway to keep the sun from decorating my scalp in a most unflattering pattern, so that's not an issue for me.The chinstrap is uncomfortable; there's no padding to keep the nylon straps and plastic buckle from digging into my chin and jaw other than my short, graying, non-hipster beard. But I'll rig something up to fix that. (MacGruber!)Also, the overly-generous length of the chinstrap's strap is a bit ridiculous (remember, I have a tiny, tiny head); when I have it buckled, there's about six extra inches of double strap that I have to either tuck into the helmet above my ear or MacGruber myself a second strap restraint to supplement the thin rubber o-ring band near the buckle that holds only the first inch of excess strap. Tucking it into the ear straps is very uncomfortable; letting it fly loose and having it slap my face is another option, but hey, I have people for that.I'm not sure how it'll perform, but I'll find out soon enough. I'll use it occasionally on a bike and maybe I'll try a Bird scooter, but I'll wear it a lot around the house. I'm tired of getting concussions from banging my head against the wall every time Trump tweets.*** UPDATE ***I've decided that in the interest of safety, it's best I get a helmet that actually fits and is already comfortable without performing an engineering intervention. Returning it; will have to avoid the news until I find a better fit. 4Better than my expectationAt first I was quite skeptical about this one. It looks great on the picture but I took a chance. It turned out pretty good for me. I like the adjustment is "wheeled" compared to my old one which I have to adjust the belt by hand. This make it easy to make adjustment to fit hand snuggly. Maybe this is a new helmet? My hair stays pretty dry after non-stop biking for three hours under the sun. Compare to my old one, I will have to keep a towel around my neck. 5Decent helmet, just adjusting the straps too often.Couldn't beat the price or the overall design: good venting, very lightweight, sturdy overall, fits my large noggin. Adjusting the straps is a bit of a problem, though. The dual straps that lead from the helmet around the ear meet at a little plastic sliding clip that's supposed to clamp down when you twist the dial on it per the instructions. These clips don't stay put; either one will slide if I bump it while putting on or removing the helmet. I have to readjust one or both clips nearly every time I wear the helmet. They're easy to adjust, and they'll stay put for a ride, but I don't like having to mess with them, and I don't want them to fail when I'd most need them to do their job. 3Measure twice, fit onceI doubt this helmet will fit my grandson for more than a year. This is a fine looking helmet and for those it fits I'm sure it will provide adequate performance, but I have to say, many of these reviews were misleading. Not that I was intentionally mislead, but this helmet just fits at its maximum adjustment range with some padding removed. Not too tight now but just shy of too tight. It most likely won't fit when he's 9, 10, or 11. I found that my grandson's 7 year old head measures 22" on the "fit line" for safety helmets just above the eyebrows (OK, big head, but he's awfully smart!) so next time I'll search for a product by measured size or maybe an actual brick-and-mortar fit-test. Curiously, a quick search here didn't bring up many helmets listed by actual size in inches. 2Poor product description - helmet for ages 8+Be aware that the packaging on the helmet indicates ages 8+. The description on the website doesn't indicate a size or age range and some of the reviews said that it fit their 2 year old. My 3 year old has a large head but this was enormous on her and would not have been safe. Shame on the seller for not including this information - now I have to pay to return the item because they couldn't make it easier for their customers to understand what size the helmet is. 1NOT SAFE FOR USEI got this helmet right after I purchased my new Schwinn hybrid bicycle (which I love). I've used this helmet for a couple of weeks and worked well. But then I went on vacation for 2.5 weeks. When I came back, I found that the band inside of the foam had completely detached from the rest of the helmet. Let me be clear, the part that actually fits around the head of the user DETACHED from the helmet WHILE IT WAS NOT BEING WORN.There were not any heat waves. My house did not get hotter than 78 degrees while I was gone. There was no reason for this to occur. Apparently that band was only held on by a few bits of sticky stuff (maybe glue) here and there around the helmet.I'm very glad that this happened while I wasn't using the helmet, but I'm even more concerned about what could have happened had I fallen and actually used the helmet for its intended purpose. Would the helmet have protected my head? Would the thing have fallen apart on impact? Would I have lived through the accident? I will never know. What I do know is that I will never use this helmet again. And I hope that anyone who does will read these words of caution:BUYER BEWARE - MAY NOT BE SAFE 1
