Pretty nice for the price, but it's still a $12 watch.I work in a warehouse, so I wanted a pocket watch, as to not abrade a wristwatch. With this watch, you get what you pay for. It looks pretty nice and doesn't feel particularly cheap. I would try to keep the clear plastic covers on the watch for as long as possible. The finish will rub off fairly easily, especially if you have keep other things in the same pocket as the watch. I've had the watch for a couple of weeks, and the battery still works. It's also a pretty good conversation piece that looks probably $10 - $15 more expensive than it is (about $12 at time of purchase).TL; DRPretty nice for the price, but it's still a $12 watch.4Not only is he in love with his watchMy young son, for whatever reason, is obsessed with pocket watches. I decided to purchase this one for the price and kept my fingers crossed for decent quality. Not only is he in love with his watch, I'm very impressed with the quality! It's not flimsy by any means, looks and feels sturdy, and I'm not worried about it falling apart his his rough-and-tumble activities. I would recommend this watch for adults too, it's a nice watch!5Mudder Classic Smooth Vintage Silver Steel pocket watchA very nice simple pocket watch. I like everything about it and most importantly of all, the accuracy of which it keeps time. For a person who wears glasses only for reading and doesn't wear glasses all the time, the hands on the face of the watch are easy to see and read. The outside of the case is a basic shiny chrome finish.....nothing to scratch or wear off over time. The latch mechanism to hold the cover closed works flawlessly to open and close. The attached chain to the watch is slim but very sturdy. If you're looking for a good reliable every day use pocket watch I highly recommend this watch.5It doesn't break the bankI purchased this watch strictly as novelty not expecting all that much. I like watches of all sorts and this was no exception. I only have had this for a little over a week but find it much more pleasing than I expected. Other reviewers had mentioned it was hard to distinguish the front from the back when opening. The front when holding it will have a much more noticeable space between the body and the front cover. Others had mentioned that when closing, it doesn't easily snap closed. I find that if you depress the crown slightly, the case will close quite easily. I realize for $12.00 your not going to have the crown jewel. I find it easy to read and it's keeps time very accurately. I like it and have not been disappointed. Would I purchase another? Sure, if this one stopped working, I'd give another one a try. It's not going to break the bank.Update: 12/20/2016 This watch continues to be a real joy. Have had no trouble with it what-so-ever. It's been rewarding because I treated the purchase as a novelty item yet its been so much more. I love it when once in awhile we can purchase something so reasonable and have such a rewarding experience. Moving my rating up to five stars.5Quality, price and good looks all wrapped up in modern classic.This is a really good looking, good running watch. I like the fact it doesn't need winding and was accurate to the minute for the few short weeks I had it. Not being used to a pocket watch in my watch pocket I washed my jeans with the watch still in that pocket. It took long enough for me to realize the 'klunk" sound was not the washer but something inside. By that time the washer had managed to drown the watch. I can vouch for them not being waterproof. But they are everything else good I can say about a watch. The price is unbelievable so having to buy a second watch was not a big deal. But after having the watch for three weeks I would have paid twice the price to replace it...I like it that much.Aden: I got the second watch and it lasted several months...much longer than the first one....but this one met the same fate as the first one....by the time I heard the "clunk" in the washer it was too late....the watch had drowned. But to attest to how well I like this watch I quickly ordered another. I really like the watch....but if you get one..just wipe it off with soft cloth. It cannot survive the washer. ;)FYI....the battery is a 377A in case you want to have some on hand. I discovered that at the "autopsy".5Excellent Low Cost Pocket WatchGreat little battery operated quartz pocket watch at a low price. It's great for everyday use but looks like a high end pocket watch so it could be used for dress as well. Keeps excellent time & comes with a good looking & practical chain.5An accurate timepiece with certain issuesOn the positive side, this watch keeps good time. It will run for months with no need for adjustment. Its uncluttered face is highly legible. And the chain which accompanies it is durable and attractive steel. It arrives with a 377A (alkaline) battery. These batteries have a limited life and may go dead within months after a watch is delivered. (This may account for some reviewers' comments that a watch failed to keep regular time, or stopped working. If you encounter this situation, try installing a new battery.) The battery can easily be accessed by removing the back cover and the plastic retaining disc. It is advisable to replace the 377A battery with a 377 (silver oxide) battery, which has a longer life, and is similarly priced.On the negative side, although the chain is steel, the case is silver plated brass; and the silver plating wears out fairly quickly (see photograph). Note that, when polished, the brass case is fairly attractive. The case itself is durable; the hinge less so. A greater concern, after six months of use, the crystal fell out.If you worry about appearances, perhaps purchase a watch with a brass or bronze case one that does not pretend to be silver. Check the crystal, and if it seems to be at all loose, apply tiny amounts of super glue at several places along its edges, If you need to install a new crystal, you need one with a 36.6 mm diameter. Note that a pocket watch with a hinged metal cover takes a relatively "flat" crystal in comparison with an open face pocket watch. The crystal fits snugly into the watch, but should be secured with an appropriate agent. If you use super glue, use the minimum necessary, as excess glue can fog the crystal. Clear expoxy might be an acceptable alternate, if used sparingly. And a special glue for watch crystals is also available.These comments probably apply to other similar watches offered by Amazon.4I (did not ultimately) like it.I am going to leave up my original review, below, but I have changed the rating to one star. The only reason: It did not keep good time, at least for me and despite what others said about its accuracy. A time piece these days, especially one running on battery, has one overriding, urgent requirement: It must keep good time. This one did not. The first time it lost the better part of an hour over a few days, when I noticed it I gave it the benefit of the doubt; maybe I had inadvertently left the stem extended somehow. The second time, I knew and the watch was discarded. I would have returned it but I had it too long and the cost of shipping it back would have probably been more than the watch was worth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------Not the most glamorous watch I have ever owned but for sitting in my jeans pocket with keys, pen, and God knows what else, it's not bad. "I like it," as the caption for 4 stars says.That is, if it keeps time as accurately as some people here say it does and it does not fall apart as some other people say it did. The watch is neither sturdy nor flimsy; it's in between. I suspect that if you don't swing it around and drop it, it will stay together.So for the price I paid, it's fine. I don't like wrist watches and my phone is in my bag, so this will do nicely.Side note: For a chuckle, take a look at some of the one-star reviews in which the complaint is that the user cannot wind up the watch. One wonders if they are serious or not. I'd say yes, they probably are serious, because it certainly takes all kinds of people to make a world. In their defense, the watch comes with no instructions, not that they would necessarily by read by these folks, of course.1Great little watchDon't be fooled by the price. I feel like this should cost way more than it does. Don't get me wrong, it's not a work of art nor is it a high-end timepiece, but the casing is shiny, the glass is clear, and the hands and numbers are easy to read.If you tend to leave it on the counter (especially a granite kitchen countertop) it will very likely develop some pretty deep scratches, as the metal casing is highly polished and not terribly thick. Just use care when handling it and it should stay shiny... even if it does get scratched up, at this price you could easily just buy a new one if you really wanted to.I can not speak to the accuracy of the watch since I only used it for a few weeks for a costume I put together.5IT SURVIVED THE WASHING MACHINE!!!!!!I've had this for about a year, and enjoyed it. However, recently I accidentally left it in my pocket and put it in the wash. I did not do just a regular wash: first, 30 minutes soaking, then a regular wash cycle, then an extra rinse with two extra spins (dirty garden clothes). I was bummed to find out the watch was subjected to this, and was sure it was The End. I took the back off, removed the battery, placed the watch overnight in a small container of rice, reassembled and it totally works again. Pretty impressive for a $12 dollar watch.5
