Customer Reviews

Convenient and versatileThe flavor, color, and texture are good but it doesn t reconstitute into anything that resembles fresh spinach leaves, so don t expect it. It is more like finely chopped, frozen spinach that is well cooked. It is nothing like canned spinach, not at all slimy.I have used it in soups, dips, pasta dishes, rice dishes and egg dishes, all with good results.Crumbling it into powder using my blender, I added stealth nutrition into hamburgers, meatloaves, and sauces for the grandkids. They never even suspected it was there. It is very helpful when cooking for one or for anyone who can t get out to shop very often. The container is light weight and easy to handle. This has the same nutritional value as fresh without the waste and there are no additives or sodium to worry about.I love a fresh spinach salad but for most other uses of spinach I think I will use this from now on. 5Eating Veggies is HardBecause getting your family to eat enough vegetables is hard. Some people love vegetables. For me, it's a challenge to get enough vegetables into my family's diet.I've tried sneaking fresh spinach into their food and that was a colossal failure. My husband in particular will take the time to pick the pieces off of the sandwich that I tried to hide it in with the lettuce. The great part about this dried spinach is that when I put it in the food people just assume that I went a bit heavy on the parsley. It makes it pretty easy to put in everything. I've added it to soups, burgers ... even those velveeta hamburger helper things. I've not had one complaint yet!I love the product. It tastes fresh and natural and is super easy to use.You can taste it if you put a lot in, so I usually only add a couple Tablespoons here and there. Per the package, 1/2 cup dried = 1 cup reconstituted. This was a little nebulous to me as to what would actually equal a serving per the FDA guidelines for veggie servings.1 cup of fresh spinach is a serving per the FDA, but frsh is fluffy. There is 7 calories in 1 cup of fresh spinach and about 40 in 1 cup of cooked spinach. So, I use those guidelines in determining how much of this would technically equal a serving of vegetables. The label says there is 350 calories in the full jar.Even if you can't sneak in a full serving, I think any little bit helps. 5Misperception of valueThe quality of the product itself is good. The value is not. I thought I was comparing apples to apples price wise given the "1 full quart description". I thought I was receiving a "full" quart sized container as I have with ALL similar products in the past. This is not the case. I received what will be a quart of product once re hydrated. This was not intimated in the description. It wasn't until I received the product and was stunned by the small package size that I did I little more research. They give the dimension of the container in the "product details" as 3.8 x 5 x 3.8 inches, I suppose this would have been my clue to the real content size since no other similar product lists the actual measured inches of their container, because other products really are in a quart sized container.Consumers should not HAVE to look for CLUES. I feel it's deceptive marketing. I think an honest company would make sure, if they want to sell a product as being a quart, it should either be IN a quart container, or plainly state that it WILL BE a quart once you ad water. My fault, I suppose for not having noticed the dimensions and made the appropriate scientific extrapolation. I thought a quart was a quart. However it did make me double check several other products on Amazon. They are again, sold in actual quart sized containers and by weight, not by potential re-hydrated product volume. 3Taste is good, Price is badThis was quite tasty, almost as good as fresh, but the price is outrageous compared to what fresh costs. I ended up blending half of the quart container to make mashed cauliflower (instant mashed cauliflower, right?) and it amounted to a little over 1/4 cup when done. I estimate one of these is only 1/4-1/2 of what you'd get from a head of cauliflower. So good for emergency food, perhaps, but not for regular consumption. 3fully satisfiedLong ago I bought Tone's freeze dried mushrooms at Sam's Club. They stopped carrying them but I was able to continue to purchase them on line. The last time I tried, they were discontinued, and I panicked because I had come to depend on them for many dishes I make. An on line search brought up this new one, so I ordered 2 to try. I just tried them in my mushroom and barley and vegetable soups and they seem to be just as good; however, they do cost more (and don't seem to go quite as far). Nevertheless, I am about to order more as I had to use 1 and 1/2 of the two jars for the soups. These are so much better than canned mushrooms. The flavor is much stronger. Once re-hydrated, it's like using fresh mushrooms. 5Size 1/2 what is advertisedThe Mother Earth Products Freeze Dried Mushrooms that I received is 1/2 the size that is advertised. It is 2oz, 56g, 1 pt, instead of 4oz, 113g, 1 qt. I paid the $15.99 for the larger size. DO NOT BUY. 1Do not buy! This product is ridiculously expensive and perhaps purposely mislabeled/misrepresented. A "quart" size bottle doesn't mean a "quart" of mushrooms. On top of that, the fine print online says 4 Oz. of content, but when I received the "quart size of 4 Ounces", the label on the jar itself says "3 Oz.". Given this circus of this marketing scam, I actually put the contents to the scale, and barely got past 2 Oz of mushrooms. Really????? 1Know What You Are Getting!I like this product a lot for convenience and longevity. Sometimes you just don't have fresh mushrooms around the house or when you thought you did, you find they've shriveled or have become otherwise unappetizing.Potential buyers must be aware that the container is rated at a 1-quart volume capacity. In weight, 1 quart = 32 oz. = 2 pounds, but you are not getting it based on weight, you're getting it based on volume. In actual weight, you're receiving a few ounces, tops, making them extremely expensive per pound, especially after the humongous price hike.I most recently purchased these 6 months ago. Since then, the price has more than doubled (minus 1 star), so I probably won't be repurchasing from this source unless they revert to somewhere near my original cost, which was under thirteen dollars. 4Defective packagingI have ordered these a few times in the past and really liked them. The peppers used to be bright red & green and smell fragrant upon arrival, so when I ran out recently I didn't hesitate to reorder. The new container of peppers was not like ones I've purchased in the past. The peppers were brown in appearance with a safety seal under the lid that was not intact with little smell at all. I contacted Amazon & was issued a replacement for the damaged item which arrived within days, however, the replacement was brown and that container had a damaged safety seal as well. There were no dates on either of the containers, so I don't know if it was packaging or product issue but they were NOT the quality I'd become used to for this product. 1False Advertising with the Mis-leading Image...I like to use dried spinach, dried celery, etc. I purchased this particular one because the image showed the product as 6 oz. That turned out to be false advertising as it was 3 oz. Pretty sneaky and dishonest if you ask me. I figure the misleading is intentional. Hopefully they'll change their image and promote this item a little more honestly in the future. Aside from the false advertising, I'm sure the product will be fine. A good bit of it has turned to powder, which won't be ideal for adding to various recipes, but it will still impart the flavor. 1
