Customer Reviews

Nice quality at a nice price. My husband uses a roller like this 36 inch one at his gym. He uses it daily now that we have one at home. This is a dense foam roller with hardly any give to the material. If you're just starting out like me you may want to get a softer one, because this one is going to be a tad bit uncomfortable at first. This one was a great find at under $20 and looks like it shouldn't have any issues with holding up overtime. The one I have has the insignia of "j/fit" on the end. For those who are concerned about "smell" this roller has no smell to it what so ever. I was actually surprised by that. Usually a product like this would have a plastic type of smell, but it doesn't, which is nice. I would buy other sizes from this company, and recommend them to others. 5Basic black therapy in a simple roll of foam!My physical therapist had me try a foam roll at her office and suggested that I get one for home since it had been a excellent way to stretch my upper back and thoracic outlet area where I was having difficulty. Despite being "hard" (these are not comfy, squishy foam but firm) it is incredibly relaxing and offers a great stretch by simply lying on it lengthwise and opening your arms in various positions including overhead. I understand there are also exercises and other uses which might make it even more versatile, but I am happy simply lying on it for 15 minutes per day and getting a relaxing stretch to maintain my improvement with P.T.Concerning the size: I am rather short (5 feet)and the 36 inch length goes the length of my spine with a bit to spare, but a very tall person might find it difficult to "fit" on it lengthwise. This model is a more expensive than the one that my therapist uses, but has a smoothed surface in black which I prefered to have around the house, and which I thought might hold up better. The only reason that it gets 4 stars rather than 5 is that this model is really identical in feel to my therapist's $10- model now that I have tried them both. The therapist's is white and a bit fuzzy from use...but has obviously held up with much greater daily usage. The asthetic is nice but I might have saved myself some money by going with the simpler white version. Therefore, I can't say for sure that the color is worth the additional cost since the durability of either would be equal.Overall, though, this is a great product. Simple but very useful. 4Love hate relationshipI have owned this for a while now. It is still firm and works out my quads, piriformis, IT band, and helps with back tightness. I will say that it can be really painful in beginning if you are extremely tight. I usually break it up to more sets with less time until I feel better to last 30 seconds to 1 minutes for my legs. Can be used for so many different body parts, from tension headache relief all the way down to the calves. Although, for my calves I used a lacrosse ball. 5Highest quality rollerRead some early reviews about quality, and it not being "branded" by j/fit - they've fixed all of that. This is a durable, stiff quality product that should last a long time.Recommendations: If you're new to rolling, please proceed with extreme caution! Learn how to use this properly, maybe watch some videos on uTube, livestrong, etc. If you have ANY back issues at all, or think you might, please talk to your healthcare provider, MD, Chiro, therapist, etc. before using this. You could easily exacerbate an already existing injury. Proceed with caution around the neck & especially the lower back. What you'll get is a hard foam tube in a box; there won't be any instructions, etc.I suggest you never (roll) use this cold, i.e., make sure you warm up (either exercise, or a long hot shower) & stretch thoroughly before. If you're not thickly muscled, or have a thin back (little body fat) I suggest wearing a couple of thick sweatshirts to cushion yourself at least at first. 512" Foam Roller is a Cut-Off and Extremely FirmI bought one of these to use in lieu of a small pillow on my office chair, so I could simultaneously obtain both lumbar support and use the roller to ease strained lower back muscles while I'm working at my desk.PROS:It's a good size for use on a chair, it marginally works for rolling out sore back muscles, seems like it would not get too soft and squishy too fast. Without me asking, they upgraded me to next-day delivery from the usual Amazon Prime 2-day delivery.CONS:Extremely firm - I doubt I can compress it more than 1/2". It's a lot harder than I would have liked and doesn't work as well for my purposes as a softer roller. Also, it is not as pictured and, as others have stated, it is a segment cut off from a larger roller, with unfinished ends. However, it isn't jagged or rough at the ends - it's pretty smooth and the foam isn't flaking off (yet). In retrospect, I wish I had ordered a 36" roller in a softer foam and trimmed it down myself to maybe a 15" size, which would have worked a bit better for my purposes to use on a chair, as the 12" one is a few inches narrower than I would have liked. I"m guessing that those of you thinking of using this as a travel-sized roller for their backs to roll on the floor might also find it a bit too narrow, also. 3This thing is GREAT for back pain!I can t believe how amazing this thing works! I have been studying for exams and having some stressful times at work and my back has been so tight and miserable lately. Not to mention my hips and neck seem to be sore every time I get up in the morning too. Just all around stressed and sore. I was doing some research hoping to find some type of relief other than going to the chiropractor or using pain medication and I think I found it. I am not fit and have a hard time stretching. Because of this, this roller is actually very painful to me. But I think it will get easier because after just 15 mins of rolling around on the floor of my living room experimenting with different positions, my muscles already feel so much better! I would compare it to a deep tissue massage. It s painful then, but you always leave feeling better. This is an incredible $12 fix for muscle pain. 5Authenic J Fit product received / Great for releasing tensionThere is a review in the thread questioning the authenticity due to a change in look/design between the first and second rollers purchased. The manufacturer chimes in. Mine arrived on 9/11/12, and I did receive an authentic J Fit, labeled accordingly with a J Fit emblem. Before buying this product, do a couple things:1) Google high density foam vs. EVA. There are plenty of good articles and video explaining the differences between the white (softest), black (firmest), and green/blue (med) rollers. They explain the differences in pressing that determines the firmness differences, full roller vs 1/2 roller, and even talk about what size to get--12, 18, or 36. No need to buy multiple rollers if just one will do for you.2) Read thru the reviews. Many reviewers have taken time to explain what reason/injury/problem/recommendation led to a foam roller. Back pain, leg pain, gym users, trainers, physical therapy----tons of good info.3) Follow the price. Usually around $28, price will often drop to the $23-$24 range. Snagged mine thru Warehouse Deals for $20.One of the trainers at my gym has advised me several times to use a foam roller, saying that as much as I run, I have tension all over and would really benefit. People I see using them have said it really gets the muscles relaxed. Sweat concerns aside, I haven't set up time with the trainer to have him show me various stretches, but now that I've bought one, I will. I was also told it does not feel good when you first start using it; that it can be painful if you have a lot of muscle tension. I chose the black version because it's the most firm, and 36" so I could do my back with ease. As I plan to use for the long term, I didn't want to start out with something smaller or less firm, outgrow it, and have to buy again. This roller is solid. Very solid. No worries about breaking or bending. Took it out the box, sat on the floor and rolled my back. Amazing! It wasn't painful, but it's not a therapeutic feel-good massage. You feel the pressure. And I could feel the tension releasing, which was a borderline feel-good sensation. Then I hit legs, calves and quads, as I've seen others at the gym do. Again, amazing. You really do feel the tension leaving your body! It was a bit uncomfortable on my calves, which means I have a lot of tension in them and need to work them more. Even though I haven't set up time with the trainer, that same Google search produced videos on using the roller--back, calves, quads, hams, glutes, shoulders, etc... And lastly, I found it most difficult to work the calves. It's easy enough for the back, butt, hams, quads, but for calves you have to position your arms to move your body so you can go over the roller. Ideally, you'd want to roll from ankle to knee, but your range of motion is restricted, even working one calf at a time. (This is not a flaw of the roller, just something you should know.)Another huge benefit is budget. My gym is very big on massage therapy. Wants you to schedule a day just for massage, or after workout if your time is tight, and work on your problem areas. Even just once per week, a 30 minute session will quickly affect your budget. So if you're like me and watch where you spend your money, get a roller and learn to self massage. The price of the roller is WAY cheaper than a single massage session. So I'm sold. Should have gotten one of these a long time ago. I'm going to shoot for daily adding this into my workout as a scheduled part of my routine. Money well spent. Don't overthink it. Just buy it. Your body will thank you. 5Gets the job doneJust received it a few days ago. First I was a bit confused because I couldn't see the white j/fit logo like you can see clearly on the picture however looking closer to the foam and you can see an engraved black j/fit logo... very hard to see, easy to miss. The foam is hard and it takes quite a bit to get used to it. I feel like I am redoing my workout when using it as it gets hard to keep you arms straight in order to roll on your calves however this is where the magic happens. It really feels like I am getting a deep tissue massage and even though it could be a bit painful it is so worth it!I'm a beginner in foam rolling and try to do 8-10 rolling per position: back, glute, calves, quads, hamstring, triceps and whatnot. The results are amazing: I feel more relaxed, no soreness, I sleep better... I didn't expect much from this little piece of foam but it seems to work.As it helps me out, I decided to use it at least mornings and evenings no matter what and one more after my work out for stretching. Soon, I'll probably kiss goodby to my chiropractor and massage as for $26 I get the same benefits from home... but everyone is different! 4Pretty sure the item I received was a knock-offPretty sure the item I received was a knock-off, no branding on it, and I have a j/fit from the store, it had a nice smooth surface coating so that it was durable and didn't shed bits, that's what I liked about it. This one I received had an uneven surface, no smooth coating, and it felt a little wider too tho less sure about that. It was OK, but had offgassy smell and for the price I want to genuine item. Returned to Amazon 1they will hurt like crazy at firstEveryone should own one of these or the more advanced rumble roller, though start with these. Warning! they will hurt like crazy at first, but very quickly that will recede and you will work out muscle problems and knots you never knew you had though they effect you!! Take a while, though you dont have to use very long each time. Now I can be working in my studio, and my back is killing me. Come in use the rumble roller and within less than 5 minutes feeling good, otherwise would take hours for the tension to go away. I got mine used, think someone returned it because it hurt as it was brand new looking. One of my favorite things! 5
