Customer Reviews

Durable high-quality bands for strength trainingI bought the 6-band set and have found them extremely durable and useful. At my stage of strength development, I use the red, black, and purple bands the most. The purple bands are perfect to add resistance to some of my exercises. I attach them to the various Hammer press machines, which provides additional and increasing force when pushing; it helps keep my movement strict and steady, preventing any "bouncing" of the weights. I've had an amazing pump after using these bands. Looking forward to graduating to the green band very soon. I use the black and red bands by themselves for simple warm-up and stretching exercises. The red is perfect to take to work and stretch to get a mini pump after sitting at the desk for a couple hours! When the package arrived, I was very impressed with how solid feeling and thick the range of bands were. The green and blue bands are monsters! Not your child's rubber bands! Very thoughtful to match the band color with the color of the mini bands to wrap them up!NOTE: The package comes with ONE band per color. If you plan on using them with a barbell or on a Hammer strength machine, you'll probably need a 2nd set for each color. I bought another pack because I was so impressed with them! 5I really like these bandsI've been using the purple bands for a couple months now in my poor man's home gym and I absolutely recommend these bands. A person can do practically any major muscle group resistance exercise with these and the proper anchoring. I have a have rack for squats with attachments at the bottom for bands, and I use these bands with the pull-up bar to do triceps and lats exercises. Takes the place of cumbersome and expensive equipment....The only thing I don't like about them is that it's difficult to track progress as you get stronger. I'm a person that keeps a comprehensive gym 'journal' and it's a pain to look back and see an entry like "purple band: 4set X 12 reps" compared to using equipment which you stack weight plates on and see "HammerStrength Lat: 1 95lbs X 6 reps. 2 110lbs X 5 reps" etc. In the later scenario you can more easily track what you're doing. All this is to say, these are great for getting strong but horrible for figuring out how strong you're getting. 5" I guess the picture of my bruise was not cool even though it was zoomed in and impossible to ...I am writing these reviews again as my previous post got removed for being "inappropriate." I guess the picture of my bruise was not cool even though it was zoomed in and impossible to make out where the bruise was.I have had no problems with this product and even loved it. I bought 3 of the black bands, as I kept losing mine at the gym. First couple ones I had for a few months before I would lose them at the gym, but I had no problems with them. I used them to do band pull-aparts, assisted pull-ups, for various stretching routines, etc.I recently bought another one because I loved these so much but had to leave a review as a fair warning - I was using them to stretch my legs and had them stretched quite far. I had it around my waistline and was stretching when I heard it rip, and I felt a sting on my backside and the band shot to the side. I felt a lot of pain, but didn't think it was that bad. But the band was completely torn, and it left me a really big bruise (see photo). I was perplexed as even though I am not a light man by any means (weigh about 215 lbs.), the product description goes to provide lifetime warranty and I was sure that it could handle heavier loads. I don't think I was using the product in dangerous manners that it wasn't designed for so I am really confused as to why this happened. Like I said, I used multiple bands before just fine, and this one tore in my first week of use. I hope they can address this but honestly I am not sure if I can trust this product to do such stretches anymore. 1SnappedWorked great for a while, but snapped mid-exercise after about 5 months. Thankfully it did not injure me. I was stretching it to about 80 inches from the anchor point, so maybe these bands just cannot handle an intense workout. 1Seller stands behind productBought this 3 years ago and have tied it to my pull-up bar so my kids can do assisted pull-ups. I recently tried to untie it and it broke. The rubber appeared dry-rotted under the knot, but nowhere else. I emailed Draper's and they cheerfully sent me a new band. I think the product has good quality, but something about tying it to a bar for 3 years will make it break eventually. If you plan to use it for assisted pull-ups, you might move the knot around to different areas periodically. 5AwesomeI have been looking for these for a while now but I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for them :)These were the best price and I'm thrilled I got them.Quality is outstanding and they are well made and durable.I purchased one green and one purple band, mostly to help me increase my volume on chin-ups and pull-ups but also for other accessorie movements. My best dead hang chin-up set is 6 in a row and I can do 2 dead hang pull-ups. I use the purple band to assist on my more intense training days and the green band for days when I want to do lots of reps. I'm a woman, 172 lb.Other than the original goal for buying these, because they are so well made, I allowed my 8 year old daughter to play with them :) she thinks they are the best toys ever. They hand from the over the door pull-up bar and she uses them as swings. She got really creative with her aerial acrobatics thanks to these bands. I love that she has active fun indoors. Most of all, my favorite thing is that I get to share a love of fitness with my child in a safe environment with good quality equipment. The company's customers service was impressive and they even emailed me to see if I need help or additional information. I guess I'm an all around happy customer. 5Using for assistance in pull-up trainingWhen I first opened the package, I thought, "Dang, that's a BIG rubber band." And it is. Most of my adult life I've been overweight and understrong. Though I started changing that a year or two ago, I still lack the right muscles (especially the lats) to do unassisted pull-ups. At 6'2" and 240 lbs, I can do dead hangs from the bar, but negatives are difficult - I just drop too quickly. After reading reviews, I ordered the blue Draper Strength band, and after it arrived I hooked it over my freestanding bar and struggled to pull it down enough to get it around my knee. Then I realized it was just easier to reach my foot up to the loop and step down into it. The first day of practicing I still couldn't quite get my chin over the bar. The loop works excellently for the first 75-80% of the pull up, but then I've gotta use more actual muscle. I'm starting to learn how to recruit my lats more, and am making progress. I've only been using it for a few days and can now do several assisted pull-ups in a row. It might take me a month or two before I need to move down to a lighter band, but I'll be augmenting my training with barbell rows and inverse bodyweight rows while I work daily with the blue band. Most of my training with the band is done in the grease-the-groove style of Pavel Tsatsouline. The quality of the band seems fantastic. If you're not tall and you're using the blue one, you might need a step stool to mount it for pull-up practice. It really does provide a lot of resistance. I'll update on the build quality after a couple months, although I don't anticipate issues. I'd recommend buying it with confidence. 5Too small to useI bought the purple band and it's basically useless to me. My issue with this band is how short it is. Unless I'm using it totally wrong, it's impossible to extend to the length I need. I even tried doing the workouts that come in the guide the seller emails but the band just won't give. Obviously you want resistance but it's useless if it doesn't stretch enough to even be used. 1Great, inexpensive, best to buy in a set, for barbell lifting and stretchingI use these mini bands on barbells and the belt squat machine for powerlifting dynamic effort westside conjugate style training. If you are wondering, here are the cross sections of two especially relevant bands:Red Draper 57mm^2Black Draper 99mm^2Comparatively:Westside Black Monster Mini 81mm^2So if you are looking for a band to work between the Draper Red and Draper Black, Westside is an option. You might also be able to just throw on a Draper Yellow next to a Draper Red to accomplish the exact same thing, but the one thing I have not done is tested the weight of such combinations in real terms.I recommend getting a hanging scale and using that to determine how much band tension you actually have on the bar. Since heights of people and lifts of course vary, you will want your own inputs.I also use these bands for various stretches, and they are VERY slippery out of the package. They also outgas like crazy. I threw them outside on the patio to breathe a bit, then washed them in the back. I still get a headache when I pull them out in a confined space.Might try scrubbing them with a green scratchy pad to get some grip out of them, breaking up the glossy exterior. That is just the chemical nature of these types of bands as far as I can tell. 5Only 4 months of intermittent use and the red band has snapped: UPDATEDAs the title indicates, I've only had the bands for 4 months and have only used them during occasional business travel. In the 4 months I've probably used the red band a total of 10 times for stretching and certain tricep exercises. Two days ago the red band completely snapped. This appears to be of poor quality. If the manufacturer stands by its product I would suggest that it contact me and send me a replacement free of charge to me. If they do, I will update this review. Until then, do not buy this product.UPDATE: On 6/19/2019 I emailed Draper's regarding my band and to discuss replacement. Klint at Draper's responded to my email within minutes and quickly sent me confirmation that he had placed a request for Amazon to ship me a replacement band. Previously gave this one star. Have revised to five stars. 5
