Customer Reviews

Poor readability of the display featuresI was really hoping to write a favorable review when I first ordered this dive computer but unfortunately I am going to have to give it a 1 star rating. Overall it appears to be a well made piece of gear with easy to understand and use feature but ultimately all those are irrelevent if it is difficult to read the screen. I really feel that Cressi Sub missed the mark by not allowing for a higher contrast digital readout on their display. It is by customizable and the light display is nominal at best. It is unfortunate to say the least. After 40 years of diving on a regular basis for both work and pleasure I am fairly comfortable with my ability in reading gauges while on the water. For this reason and this reason only I have decided to return my purchase. Buyer beware, there are certainly more sight friendly alternatives on the market. If someone reads this that happens to own a Leonardo please feel free to comment on your experience.1No reason to spend moreI spent a lot of time researching out different computers and have a tendency to price myself up a bit as I learn more about the bells and whistles. In this case I'm glad I didn't. I am an advanced open water diver and was ready to get my first computer before doing some more diving. I just got back from doing some dives in Bali using my new toy and it did everything I wanted it to, including a countdown for the safety stop. Maybe it is a little too quick to ring me if I ascended fast, but I don't mind being reminded to stay on the careful side. I also got the adaptor to download dive data and found the info interesting. The only thing I would change is I wish it would keep temp data for the whole dive and not just the coolest part.5Beeps constantly and jumps into deco on occasionI am okay with it, because it usually does its job: However, occasionally on the second dive it jumps into deco for no apparent reason. I have friends who have the same computer and have experienced the same problem. Every now and then they will put you into deco, while every other computer with the same dive profile, even other Cressi Leonardo's are well away from it. The by far more annoying feature is that it is really conservative about coming up too fast. It is in fact so conservative that it will constantly beep at you if you're diving anywhere that has a 3 foot swell passing over you. Very annoying if you're diving around rocks with waves crashing around them. Every time a wave passes over you it will beep, long and loud! It's a good first dive computer though. I wouldn't buy one again, but I also don't particularly regret buying it.3Inexpensive and Easy To UseI have been using a Cressi Leonardo dive computer for over 50 dives. I love how easy to use it is, and that it is inexpensive for a dive computer. Recently, I decided to purchase myself a new, updated computer and give my adult daughter my old one. I did research, and bought a Suunto Vyper Air. The main reason that I bought it was for the digital compass and the ability to add a wireless air integrator later. I was annoyed with the complexity and the inability of the watch to calibrate the compass. I returned it, kept my Cressi Leonardo, and bought a new pink one for my daughter.Pros:- Easy to use - only one button- Does air/nitrox- Shows water temperature while diving and in the dive log- Retains Nitrox settings- Starts a new dive when you descend- InexpensiveCons:- Poor visibility - The backlight is horrible. In low-light or dark situations, you will need a flashlight to see your computer- No air integrationIn my opinion, you should get this computer as a starter then go up to the $1000+ computer when you're ready to upgrade. Then use this guy as your backup computer. :)4Great computer for beginner/intermediate diverI will never be a great diver, but I do love to dive and I do so wherever I can. What should a diver like me own and carry around? Mask and snorkel are what I've chosen but I've added this dive computer. Although the single-button operation seems clumsy, it works very well in practice and adjustments are easy. Directions could be much better, but that can be overcome. Screen is easy to read, back-lighting is sufficient, and the audible alarm is almost disturbingly loud, but it's an alarm! I usually dive with Nitrox and this computer handles that task with ease. I use the most conservative settings, although one can change to less conservative. The wrist strap is long, but there's a great keeper to control it. Using Nitrox means that I must use a dive computer and I dislike depending on the dive company. I do like being able to track my own diving, too, and start being more responsible for my own safety.Perhaps a professional diver would need more bells and whistles, but I don't. I recommend this.5Everything I wanted!I bought the Cressi Leonardo in August 2016....I've already used it last weekend lake diving in michigan. Worked awesome! Going soon for shipwreck diving and can't wait to use it. It's everything I wanted. I'm still very new to scuba diving and this is a great entry level dive computer. Yes.....the watch face is obnoxiously large and the wrist band is very long. I prefer the large face on it, makes easy to see under water. I also like the fact that you can change the battery in it.5Great value for the regular recreational diver - Very conservative in it's profiling.Nicely made product, excellent size for viewing key information. Options on colors (nice for the wife) It's a value based product - robust and gives the data I need - I'm a minimalist and have little desire to do cave / technical / rebreather - wouldnt use the Shearwater...But...this is very conservative in it's dive profile. Still deciding if it needs to be returned. Maybe I went too 'value priced' ?4Very easy to use and quite usefulFantastic computer and extremely easy to use. I decided to buy a computer since have started diving frequently and found that computer aren't that easy to handle, at least for me that I am Advance Open Water Padi and didn't dive with gases yet. This computer is pretty easy to use, with its single button interface. I set it up very fast, I could choose between metters or feet, celsius or farenheit, air or nitrox, safety factor (I used the default since I am a 'healthy' person) and other parameters that I never used. Since it has 1 single button, the way to use it is short press and long press, where short press is to change the menu and long press is to edit something.Once I got into de water, it was pretty easy to read (I have 1 point astigmatism in both eyes), with long press I turned the light on for a couple of seconds. Also the best features imho, are the heads up when I go up faster than I should do... it beeps and complains, in the safety stop it indicates easily the amount of remaining minutes. I feel much more confortable diving with it.I have just come from a dive into the Blue Hole in Belize where we dove at 40m depth (131ft) and it was my first dive so deep and using this computer made me feel more secure. The standard view into the water is the water temperature, max depth, current depth and current dive time. If you want to take a look you could check my fedepia84 youtube account videos in Belize (the name is "Scuba Diving in Esmeralda spot, Ambergris Caye, Belize"). Or you can check this video at the minute 5:30 where I test going up quickly to test the alarm heads up:[...](Note: if you above this note the "[...]" text is because Amazon removed the link, so you will need to search the name above or check my comment below on this review)The only little thing I think it might be a cons, is that the watchband is sort of long and is little annoying (check the screenshot and video) and in one moment I didn't notice that the watchband grabber got released... nothing happens but I could have lost it. Next time I'll make sure to grab it tightly.5a great value.I'm in college and have to pay for all my equiptment on my own, so I did a lot of research into dive watches before making a purchase. This computer won out with both price and ease of use, but I was still a little skeptical because I ordered it from the Internet. It totally exceeded my expectations. I'm a new diver and haven't used any other computers, but I did an average of three dives a day on my trip and had no trouble with it. There were older, more established divers using fancy and expensive computers who had trouble getting them to work properly, but I didn't run into any problems.Just a few things: The watch strap was too large for me; I had to wear it on the tightest setting. One time the watch did not automatically turn on when I got in the water. I had to turn it on while descending, however it was still accurate in gauging depth. The watch is also conservative, I went into deco at one point when no one else did and it wanted me to do my safety stop for seven minutes. After holding me there for almost 12, my buddy and I got back on the boat despite the watch wanting to stay longer. It wouldn't set to let me dive after that, but resetting the system was simple and didn't erase any data from previous dives. All in all, a great value.4Great budget computer that does all the basicsSo far this dive watch has proved to be exactly what I was looking for.Features I'd hoped for:-Basic dive planning-Depth tracking (max and current)-Dive time tracking-TemperatureI purchase this based on the reviews and price point, at some point it will be my "back-up" computer, but I love it so far. The strap is a little long, but better to be too long than too short5
