Looks Good...But NotPoor quality Chinese leather tanning. Had the same problem with a Dockers and JC Penneys belts (also produced in China). As all my other Columbia merchandise is of good quality, I thought I would try the belt. It lasted about the same amount of time as the previous two brands, 6 months. The belts were worn every day.The Leather on the front of all the belts is well done. It is the backing leather and whatever cloth/paper the insides are made of, that is very poor quality. See picture. 2Terrible quality.... not solid leather... fell apart after 6 months... image attached!Nice belt.... the one I received had some sort of vinyl or something embossed on the edges of the belt... that came loose after wearing it several times. Sort of like some thin vinyl or cloth tape or something... just glued on apparently. Disappointing to say the least... but doesn't really affect the usability of the belt, although the appearance is now a little different.Columbia Men's 40mm Oil Tan Leather Edge Belt,Brown,449-16-16 - Update on the review... I purchased this item March 26, 2016. As of early September the belt was showing some minor signs of tearing and separation at the hole I used it on... and as of today Sept. 16, the belt is in danger of ripping in half at that hole. I am not fat... I do not wear the belt tight. I use it just tight enough to keep my jeans up comfortably, so I consider this to be caused by either poor manufacturing, or poor materials. Image is attached... it is made from laminated materials... and the inside layers are mor like cardboard or something... not leather... with leather overlays on it. 1Quality Leather ConstructionI love it! Having had one of these before I was able to buy the same model number, same size and same color. It cost less today than my original belt for 4 years ago (go figure). It is of sturdy construction, thick and just the right width too. I'll have to hand it to the good folks at Columbia, they do things right (IMHO)! I know, I know ,they cost a bit more but remember the saying...You get what you pay for ;-)~ Plus Columbia brand products LAST ~ 5A Manly BeltGood looking leather with the right touch of decorative tooling to dress it up. Good for every day or dress up. The leather is nice and thick; feels substantial around your waist. The buckle is also substantial and attractive in a simple way. I also like the double belt keepers following the buckle. I have a size 36 waist and originally ordered a size 38 that would fit but there was zero room for expansion. I exchanged for a size 40 and it's perfect; enough holes to let it out or take it in as needed. Would definitely recommend this belt. 5Junk inside, ruined in less than a year of infrequent wear.Looked great brand new. Sized a bit longer than I expected, so the photos are of the two smallest holes. It was ok for a while, but it was pretty much junk less than a year later, and I was probably wearing it maybe 3 days a week on average.The thin top layer of (maybe actually real?) leather is still holding on, but the back is broken, and the inside is ... I don't know, cardboard or something?Next belt will be from someplace that uses actual good quality leather all the way through. 2Buy this one!Gremlins took my old leather belt and hid them with my other pair of 36" waist jeans and the keys to my truck. I hate being belt-less and absolutely will not wear suspenders. This isn't 1980 and I'm not Robin Williams. I require a belt of certain circumference so as to cinch up my drawers and to hold in my supple, beer filled belly. Columbia Men's belt really comes through for a guy with many years of experience. If you only buy one belt every decade or so - buy this one, and enter the room like a man! 5Insides don't look like leather! My bad.Looked very heavy, but I don't thing it was real leather. Under eight months (Did use everyday except a few Sundays) and it is snapped in two. Not leather on the inside as I look at the broken belt. Looked like it would have lasted for years, but not the real deal! Just FYI, was the Eight Months, but not a real leather belt. Not sure what it was made of but amazed it lasted that long, after looking at whats on the inside. We do get what we pay for, guess it was about eight months. 2So SoI've had this belt for a year, worn it every day for the last 10months (5 to 7 days a week)Looks nice but not very durable, I have some belts I've owned for 3-4 years that have held up better (better quality of course)Not a long term belt 2waste of moneyI was pretty happy when this belt came. It looked very durable, well made. It only lasted from 12 Jan through 25 Mar before the belt broke at the hole that I buckled to. It was worn 5 days a week, with no tools, knives, tape measures, etc. hanging on it. - just regular use. Very disappointed.Columbia Men's Big & Tall 40mm Oil Tan Leather Edge Belt, Brown, 50 (Extended Size) 1Made of junk leather ... and breaks easily.The appearance when new is .... great. looks very sturdy and well-made.But wear it for a couple of weeks and you'll see what defective leather looks like: the belt split completely open, from side to side. At one of the holes where the buckle was usually used.What causes this damage so quickly? It's the construction and material used.The belt is two thin pieces of leather sewn together but with some thick material between the two thinner strips of leather. This material has no strength whatsoever: it's only there to give padding and make the belt look thicker.The top and bottom layers of leather are poor quality, not very strong, so when stress of even a low degree is applied at any of the holes, the whole thing tears apart.See the photo.Stay away from this junk. 1
