Customer Reviews

I have used this vest about ten times on casual ...I have used this vest about ten times on casual walks. It is very frustrating that I paid 80 dollars for this thing, and it is already beginning to rip.150 pound vest reviewThe construction of the vest looks pretty good, im in the army reserves and im only using it to stay in shape while I hike and do my push ups and sit ups. The box it came in was wrapped in packing tape and was practically falling apart lol, but it made it here just fine.Their are two different sizes of weights the smaller weights are roughly 1.5 pounds and the larger weights are roughly 3 pounds, they'll be off by a few grams but no weight is perfect. The vest sits up high on the chest as advertised, it doesn't fasten tight. I have a 41 inch chest and im able to slip my hand in between the vest and chest, so unless you're an athlete or a seasoned solider be warned, dont run in this vest.4Great Product, Murph Ready! This is a great product. I have worn it a couple times in preparation for a Murph Challenge, so far I am happy. The vest sits nice and high so you have full range for pull ups and pushups. However, I recommend holding the vest while running, it does bounce. Also the vest with all the weight is 22.2 lbs. Take out two weights and you got a solid 20 lbs.5It's 50 pounds and it worksI'm not sure what I was expecting overall but I have to admit I was expecting it to be a more rigid vest. My only experience with "vests" that hold a large amount of weight is body armor and not only are they more rigid with plates inserted (and even without) but they also typically have drag handles that make the thing easier to move around off body. That said the vest is more than adequate for what I bought it for. It holds the weight well, is easy to add or remove weight and doesn't hang as low on me as others made it seem. I'm 5'10 and 165lbs and it stops at my waistline. Squatting does cause some problems but nothing you can't train around. Getting the vest on and off is a bit tricky because it wants to flop around a fair bit so just be conscious while doing it.My biggest complaint would be that the velcro straps that secure it around your waist are more to secure it than anything else and it results in all of the weight being put on your shoulders. If there was a proper kidney belt or something it would be excellent but I'm left cranking on the straps to try and distribute some of the weight and the metal D rings bite my hips.I like the results I'm getting from the vest and that's what matters at the end of the day because stretching well and reducing weight to let your body adjust to the new shoulder load takes care of the rest. A few small improvements would make this a 5 star weight vest.4Solidly made vest but not up to advertised weight. Non-existent customer support. The vest itself is a solidly made product. It's comfortable and fairly easy to use. The pockets to insert the weight bags can be a little tight, but the bags slide in and out with a little effort. Velcro pads allow for easy adjustment around the waist. Be careful with the Velcro belts, as I accidentally ruined my bedding when I rest the vest on my bed.My issue with the product is that it weighed less than the advertised 80 pounds. My particular vest appeared to be missing one or two weight bags. I e-mailed the seller but got absolutely NO response from them. Not even a confirmation of receipt of my e-mail. I did not want to return the item, given the weight of the product, and given that it mostly met my expectations. I thought this was an easy fix, and possibly just an oversight. I'm quite surprised at the lack of customer support.380 and 100 pound comparisonI bought the 80-pound vest 2.5 years ago. I used it nearly every day for squats until my cat decided it would make a good litter box. I figure I got my money's worth out of it, and it was time for a better one anyway, so I ordered the 100-pound. I didn't order the 100-pound because I need that much weight. I got it because I wanted the steel weights instead of the sandbags that come with the 80-pound and lower weight vests. The 80-pound served me well. There was a tear in the shoulder strap similar to what another reviewer posted. I was okay with that because it was not going to come apart completely. Like I said, I used it nearly every day. My main complaint about the 80- was that the sand bags were so difficult to get in and out of the pockets that I never bothered to change the weight and just kept it about 65 pounds. You can see in the pictures how much bigger the sand bags are. The 80- vest is much larger than the 100+. The steel weights are very easy to get in and out of the pockets. The sand bags are all 3 pounds. The steel ones are 3 and 1.5 pounds. The 80- comes is one piece and has padded shoulders. It isn't adjustable and hangs at my waist and I'm 6'4". The 100+ comes in two pieces (pictured) and does not have pads in the shoulders. The 100+ is adjustable. I tried wearing it at the shortest setting but I couldn't reach the straps that go around you to secure it. I let it out maybe 3 inches front and back and now it sits a couple inches above my waist. The 100+ is a much snugger fit which is great. The 80- was too loose to do push-ups with but I can use the 100+ for that no problem. I definitely prefer my new 100-pound vest over the older one. Obviously the price jumps up quite a bit when you go from 80 to 100 pounds. When I bought the 80 I think the 100 was about double the price of the 80 but right now the 100 is only $150. I think that's a pretty good deal for a versatile, durable piece of equipment that I'll use every day.Even if you need less than 80 pounds the 100 pound vest better if you can handle the price. The main drawback for the 80- is how tight the weights fit in the pockets and the size. If you're a smaller person the 80-pound is going to be very large on you. I don't know if the lighter ones are just as big or not. They could be smaller and have fewer pockets. I suspect the 120 is exactly like the 100 because there are enough pockets to hold 46 three-pound weights. That would make the vest 138 pounds plus the weight of the vest which is probably about 5 pounds empty. So to truly be 150 pounds the vest would need 4 more pockets. Mine came with 103.5 pounds of weights-23 3-pound and 23 1.5-pound and there are 46 pockets but they will all take the 3-pound weights.I'd give the 80-pound 4 stars because of the tight pockets. The 100-pound costs more but the advantages are worth it. Now if I can just keep it out of the reach of my cat....5Solid VestTo start, I ordered the 150lb vest. This model comes with fifty 3lb solid metal brick weights with a black coating. It took two shipments to get here over a span of two days. Amazingly, I was only short one weight (reason for 4 stars). Since I see many of you have been shorted on weights, I would recommend going directly to CAP for replacements. They are willing to ship just the weights. Amazon will want you to return the entire package, including the weights. As for the vest itself, it is very solid and easy to assemble. I am 6'1", 230lbs. The front of the vest hangs center on my torso and the back sits centered between my upper and middle back. There is also a ring attached on the rear of the vest for attaching chutes. The vest is adjustable if you prefer it to hang lower than that. Overall I would definitely recommend buying this vest.4So far so good. I received this vest a couple weeks agoSo far so good. I received this vest a couple weeks ago. I got the 80 LB model, and the delivery person wasn't too thrilled about it. I used it over the first weekend I had it to go hiking, (I only had about 40lbs in at the time, and it was a great workout.None of the weights were in the vest when I received it so I had to put them in myself, and it wasn't as hard as others made it sound. Quite simply, if you are sliding 2 into the same pocket, just slide them in together. The vest has a strap for the midsection which, even when tightened all the way could still benefit from a second one closer to the chest.People on the hiking trail figured I was some type of police officer... and a Captain no less, so you always have the benefit for added self esteem there. The vest is quite bulky so under no circumstances could you wear this under anything other than a poncho.Pros: Is fairly comfortable, has a lot of places for weights, solidly constructed, despite lacking the extra strap it didn't jostle around too much. Despite having all the extra weight it wasn't uncomfortable.Cons: Still would like an extra strap so that it feels like the vest is hugging me. I like hugs. People that see you wearing this may expect you to defuse explosives or break up a riot.5excellent construction, comfortableI got the 40 lb vest. Calisthenics now much more intense. Never going without a weighted vest again.Pros: excellent construction, comfortable, weight is well distributed. 5 star product.Cons: I wish the LISTING gave more info in the following areas:#1 - I wish I knew which vest design comes with each weight, like a picture chart or something. Some comments say we all get the same vest but with different amounts of weight bags, that's not true. I hoped it was, because I wanted to just buy the 40 lb one and slowly add bags until it was 150lb, but now I have to buy a second vest instead. I wish there was a way to select the vest we wanted and then the amount of bags we want or something. I don't blame the seller since even the cap barbell website doesn't show the different vest designs. Great product and company, I just wish they had more pictures/info of EACH VEST DESIGN to help me decide. For those of you wondering, ALL PICTURES in the listing are of the 40 lb model. It has 16 weight slots and comes with 16 bags totaling 40 lbs, with no additional capacity.#2 - I wish it was more clear in the listing what the weight bags are filled with. There's several reasons a person might want to know that. I dug through the comments and never found an answer. They are not sand, they are steel shot. It says so on their website:"The vest is weight adjustable, with each steel-shot packet weighing approximately 0.75 lb."Overall 5/5 product still, will buy a second vest when I outgrow this one.5Good product, 80lbs uncomfortable on shoulders, included assembly tipsThis was my first weighted vest I've used at 80lbs. Previous vests were less than 45, however, I wanted to have the ability to go up heavier for my training. I'm 6'4" 285, 44" waist, and I have no problem fitting in the vest and securing it. Many of the problems people are complaining about with this product I would like to clear up, as the product comes with NO documentation on how to optimally load the weights, wear the vest, etc.INSTRUCTIONS1) Pull out all weight bags and align them in two long rows just to keep them organized.2) Pull open all the velco straps on the vest and lay vest with chest side up3) **IMPORTANT: ALWAYS load the lower pouch with weight bags BEFORE the upper pouch. If you do the opposite, you will struggle like crazy trying to fit the lower pouch with the weight bags due to limited space. If a pouch fits two bags, place them in side by side. If they get stuck, make sure the vest is pulled flat and use a little force with a reciprocating action (grip pouch, turn clockwise and push, once it stops, turn counter-clockwise and push. Its really not hard to load these weights if you follow those guidelines. If you are stuck on the side by side bags, just advance one a few inches and then the other.4) Close pouches tightly to the velco5) Wearing Vest: make sure the velco straps are free and open. You will notice one strap is much longer than the other. This is because the smaller strap is to be looped around the ring on the same side and velcro strapped to vest with some slack (tighten later). Attach this strap BEFORE putting on the vest. I leave mine attached always. When you place the vest over your head, you will have one strap attached, and the long strap hanging on the other side. Throw it through the ring on it's side and tighten the baby down. This strap is the one that matters for those varying in size.BIG PROBLEM FOR ME: 80 lbs and minimal shoulder cushioning/padding. It's almost unwearable because it digs in so much. I'm trying to find a solution to improving this design flaw. Will update if I come across something useful. It is as advertised. And you do look like the police if you wear it around!4
